   1   There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed# evil.
      烏斯地有一個人名叫約伯；那人完全正直，敬畏神，遠離惡事。
   2   And there were born# unto him seven sons and three daughters.
      他生了七個兒子，三個女兒。
   3   His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. [substance: or, cattle] [household: or, husbandry] [men: Heb. sons]
      他的家產有七千羊，三千駱駝，五百對牛，五百母驢，並有許多僕婢。這人在東方人中就為至大。
   4   And his sons went# and feasted# # in their houses, every one his day; and sent# and called# for their three sisters to eat# and to drink# with them.
      他的兒子按著日子各在自己家裏設擺筵宴，就打發人去，請了他們的三個姊妹來，與他們一同吃喝。
   5   And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about# , that Job sent# and sanctified# them, and rose up early# in the morning, and offered# burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said# , It may be that my sons have sinned# , and cursed# God in their hearts. Thus did# Job continually. [continually: Heb. all the days]
      筵宴的日子過了，約伯打發人去叫他們自潔。他清早起來，按著他們眾人的數目獻燔祭；因為他說：恐怕我兒子犯了罪，心中棄掉神。約伯常常這樣行。
   6   Now there was a day when the sons of God came# to present# themselves before the LORD, and Satan came# also among them. [Satan: Heb. the adversary] [among: Heb. in the midst of]
      有一天，神的眾子來侍立在耶和華面前，撒但也來在其中。
   7   And the LORD said# unto Satan, Whence comest# thou? Then Satan answered# the LORD, and said# , From going to and fro# in the earth, and from walking up and down# in it.
      耶和華問撒但說：「你從哪裏來？」撒但回答說：「我從地上走來走去，往返而來。」
   8   And the LORD said# unto Satan, Hast thou considered# # my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth# evil? [considered: Heb. set thy heart on]
      耶和華問撒但說：「你曾用心察看我的僕人約伯沒有？地上再沒有人像他完全正直，敬畏神，遠離惡事。」
   9   Then Satan answered# the LORD, and said# , Doth Job fear# God for nought?
      撒但回答耶和華說：約伯敬畏神，豈是無故呢？
   10   Hast not thou made an hedge# about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed# the work of his hands, and his substance is increased# in the land. [substance: or, cattle]
      你豈不是四面圈上籬笆圍護他和他的家，並他一切所有的嗎？他手所做的都蒙你賜福；他的家產也在地上增多。
   11   But put forth# thine hand now, and touch# all that he hath, and he will curse# # thee to thy face. [and he...: Heb. if he curse thee not to thy face]
      你且伸手毀他一切所有的；他必當面棄掉你。」
   12   And the LORD said# unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth# thine hand. So Satan went forth# from the presence of the LORD. [power: Heb. hand]
      耶和華對撒但說：「凡他所有的都在你手中；只是不可伸手加害於他。」於是撒但從耶和華面前退去。
   13   And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating# and drinking# wine in their eldest brother's house:
      有一天，約伯的兒女正在他們長兄的家裏吃飯喝酒，
   14   And there came# a messenger unto Job, and said# , The oxen were plowing# , and the asses feeding# beside them:
      有報信的來見約伯，說：牛正耕地，驢在旁邊吃草，
   15   And the Sabeans fell# upon them , and took them away# ; yea, they have slain# the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped# alone to tell# thee.
      示巴人忽然闖來，把牲畜擄去，並用刀殺了僕人；惟有我一人逃脫，來報信給你。」
   16   While he was yet speaking# , there came# also another, and said# , The fire of God is fallen# from heaven, and hath burned up# the sheep, and the servants, and consumed# them; and I only am escaped# alone to tell# thee. [The fire...: or, A great fire]
      他還說話的時候，又有人來說：「神從天上降下火來，將群羊和僕人都燒滅了；惟有我一人逃脫，來報信給你。」
   17   While he was yet speaking# , there came# also another, and said# , The Chaldeans made out# three bands, and fell# upon the camels, and have carried them away# , yea, and slain# the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped# alone to tell# thee. [fell: Heb. rushed]
      他還說話的時候，又有人來說：「迦勒底人分作三隊忽然闖來，把駱駝擄去，並用刀殺了僕人；惟有我一人逃脫，來報信給你。」
   18   While he was yet speaking# , there came# also another, and said# , Thy sons and thy daughters were eating# and drinking# wine in their eldest brother's house:
      他還說話的時候，又有人來說：你的兒女正在他們長兄的家裏吃飯喝酒，
   19   And, behold, there came# a great wind from the wilderness, and smote# the four corners of the house, and it fell# upon the young men, and they are dead# ; and I only am escaped# alone to tell# thee. [from...: Heb. from aside, etc]
      不料，有狂風從曠野颳來，擊打房屋的四角，房屋倒塌在少年人身上，他們就都死了；惟有我一人逃脫，來報信給你。」
   20   Then Job arose# , and rent# his mantle, and shaved# his head, and fell down# upon the ground, and worshipped# , [mantle: or, robe]
      約伯便起來，撕裂外袍，剃了頭，伏在地上下拜，
   21   And said# , Naked came I out# of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return# thither: the LORD gave# , and the LORD hath taken away# ; blessed# be the name of the LORD.
      說：「我赤身出於母胎，也必赤身歸回；賞賜的是耶和華，收取的也是耶和華。耶和華的名是應當稱頌的。」
   22   In all this Job sinned# not, nor charged# God foolishly. [charged...: or, attributed folly to God]
      在這一切的事上約伯並不犯罪，也不以神為愚妄（或譯：也不妄評神）。
